Course Registration Overview

Dear LCHS Students and Families,

The season of course registration will soon be upon us. Please note, this year students will be submitting course requests online through the Aeries Student Portal. As always, we encourage students to make well-informed course selections in conversation with their parents/guardians, and in fact, we believe this year’s new online course selection component and updated Course Catalog will help parents and students access course selection information more easily.

Detailed instructions on how to select courses in the Aeries portal will come in a separate email at the start of each grade-level specific window (see below). In preparation, this email serves as an overview of the process and includes important dates and resources.

Course registration will occur in four phases, one grade level at a time, beginning with current 11th graders and ending with current 8th graders.

Phase 1:
Starting in January, all grade levels start researching and planning appropriate course selections using the following three documents: Time Estimator Worksheet, Four Year Plan , and Updated Course Catalog. The Time Estimator Worksheet will ask that you make your own copy and type your name at the top. It is recommended to utilize this worksheet when planning out your schedule. For the Four Year Plan worksheet, if you wish to access the fillable form, you will have to download the document after clicking on the link.

Phase 2:
Counselors deliver group presentations by during Advisory. After this group presentation, students will have the online portal open for one-week for Course Selection.

Phase 3:
Online course selection from home. Students will have approximately one week to complete the paper Course Selection Contract with parent/guardian signature(s) and Aeries online selection entries at home by their due date.

Phase 4:
An individual student/counselor meeting will then take place to review and/or adjust course selections and collect the Course Selection Contract with parent/guardian signatures. Counselors can answer questions and provide further guidance or changes to student requests at these meetings. Individual student/counselor meeting dates (during English classes - Students need to bring their parent-signed Course Selection Contract form to school this week). One-on-ones will happen in Late February- Early March.

Throughout the course selection season, we request parents and students be mindful that counselors will often be out of their offices doing the class-by-class presentations and individual student meetings. We request your patience as we focus on completing the phases by grade level, while doing our best to be available for individual questions and further guidance if requested after students/parents have read the course requirements, descriptions, prerequisite information and planning tool links. We also request that students interested in enrolling in Advanced Placement (AP) classes, attend the scheduled AP Lunch Sessions for any AP classes they are considering.

We look forward to the long-term benefits of this new Aeries online innovation, as well as the opportunity to work directly with students and families throughout this process.

Sincerely,

Jim Cartnal
Principal
