School's out for summer.

Dear Parents and Families

Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to La Canada High School! For some of you this is the beginning of an exciting journey for your student as they embark on a four year education full of promise and opportunities. For others, this is the next step in that journey that will bring new adventures. For our seniors, that journey is swiftly coming to its conclusion and will yield the next step in the great adventure of life. In all these cases, the LCHS staff is excited to be a small part of this experience. It is our intent to provide the highest quality of instruction through a community built on student curiosity, growth and integrity.
We are also continuing our commitment to the Challenge Success initiatives that were begun last year in an effort to provide balance and support to all our students as they strive to reach their personal goals. We will continue to explore the impact our late start is having on students and their success in class. We will also be examining the benefits of the new homework policy that was developed as part of our homework review team’s work last year. We have brought on board new programs such as Peer Support and are piloting a Wellness Center Initiative that seek to provide students with people and places to go if they are in need of assistance. All of these are part of a concerted effort to bring student balance into focus and allow each student find true success.
As we rush toward the end of the summer break, the school staff is being rounded out with new teachers, counselors and staff that are all committed to the idea of maximizing instruction to embed creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication into the heart of their work. The teaching staff that these new staff are joining will also engage in a year long evaluation of the school known as the WASC accreditation. We encourage our parents and students to volunteer to be members of our WASC focus groups to help us shape the future vision of the school and give us the valuable feedback of how to best serve all our students.
LCHS has always been a unique place to learn. I invite our parent and booster organizations to continue to focus their work on support for our students. Each year our parent groups provide resources for our athletes, support our musicians at field shows and choral competitions, and spectators to all our performers. I am grateful to you for your commitment and dedication to the LCHS community. I am excited about the upcoming school year and welcome all of you to our community.
