Tobacco-Use Prevention Education
Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program unit: The purpose of the state-funded TUPE program is to reduce youth tobacco use by empowering students in grades 6-12 to make healthful decisions through tobacco-preventative instruction, intervention, cessation programs, and reinforcement activities through youth development. The TUPE unit provides Technical Assistance (TA) to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in: The Tobacco-Free School District Certification process, planning and preparing applications for TUPE grant funds. LEAs receiving TUPE funds are provided TA to ensure implementation of grant are effective and compliant with guidelines set by the California Department of Education’s (CDE).
