This is a two semester course structured to advance student listening, writing, critical reading, research, analysis, logical argumentation, creative expression, memorization, and persuasive speaking skills. Students will be able to connect both their historical knowledge and personal experience to debate, speak persuasively, and interpret literature, a skill that will be useful in other academic subjects, the arts, and future careers including, but not limited to law, politics, education, journalism, news media, and theater arts. Content will be divided into four quarter units focusing on speech genres: original speeches to persuade or inform, debate, interpretation of literature, and spontaneous speaking.
